Kiara Mathur

Kiara Mathur

Proposing at first sight is overrated.

And

Being Overrated runs in my blood.

I walk around my room grabbing things and shoving them in the suitcase while my sister Raika is folding my clothes. She is the perfect girl who is not clumsy, keeps the room clean and is organized while I can not keep one thing clean. I trip on my own heels while walking towards the bed and I fall flat on it as I hear my sister shout.

"Kiki",she yells and walks over to my side.

"Don't call me that",I whine as I sit up.

She obviously does not obey and said,

"Why?it's adorable just like you".

I ignore her as I get up to zip up the suitcase. Going to someone's wedding is a preparation in itself. There are so many things to be prepared, the gifts, the outfits and what not.My cousin is getting married into some influential family and so here my entire family is getting ready to crash the wedding considering the fact that we are running late and the engagement will take place today evening.

I was lost in my thoughts when I hear the door open and barges in my grandfather, Suresh Mathur.

He is well known in our state Rajastan for running  one of the successful law firms. He was quite young when he started this firm and soon got married to my grandmother Sunaina Mathur.

They had two kids, my father Kabir Mathur and my aunt Ishana Mathur.

My father,a lawyer himself met my mother Raina Mathur at a wedding and decided to send the proposal the same day. She was getting a lot of proposals and my father made sure it was his that his father in law selects. He was sure that it would be him my mother marries. Then they got married and had my sister Raika and I, Kiara.

My aunt too met my uncle Rohan

Raichand at a wedding and she proposed him because he was very attractive and a gentleman. She did not want to wait for him to fall for someone else and uncle being the calm and shy person accepted the proposal. They had two kids, Rehan and Ishaan.

My family is great at proposing at weddings.

While the female members of my family work in different fields,my grandmother a fashion designer,my aunt a jewellery designer and my mother an architect , I chose to follow my father's and grandfather's footsteps of being a lawyer while  Raika is studying architecture.

"Are you girls ready and by that I mean

Kiki are you ready?", he speaks as he

walks in and sits on a chair.

"Dadu",I whined.

He as usual ignores me and goes on about talking to old ladies at the function and how they will be charmed by him. Well he is charming and is very smooth with words.

"Don't let Dadi hear you say all that",I said as I sit beside him.

"Uff you don't understand, all this is to make her jealous",he huffs and I laugh at him.

"Anyways I will find someone for you both as well, you don't have to be jealous of me",he walks out mumbling.

My sister and I look at each other and sigh.

We all walk to the cars and get in.

My siblings and my uncle in one car while my parents, grandparents and my aunt in one car. As the car drives out of the gates I look outside and think what will this trip hold for us.

My uncle while driving said,"You all do know that we have a history of proposals at weddings, right?"

Ishaan and I groan while the others laugh at us. It caught me off guard. It totally slipped off my mind and while I know it will be the older set of siblings who will get hitched first ,it still makes me feel weird. I don't know how people fall for someone in a day and decide to propose. Should the person not put in more efforts to woo you or at least get to know you? Where there is nothing wrong in arranged marriages but at least the person should try to get to know the person they want to marry.

I sigh as I look out and think who will get a proposal this time,Rehan bhai or Raika.
